BPS Foundation Scholarships

Myhre Family Scholarship

Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded each year.
The teachers, staff and administrators of Myhre Elementary have started the Myhre Family Scholarship for students who attended Jeannette Myhre School for a minimum of two years. A committee of Myhre teachers will review the applications and select two winners. Payments will be made to the school post-secondary institutions in which the recipients enroll.

Danie Thomssen Memorial Scholarship

To recognize her love of music, celebrate her life, and honor her memory, the Danie Thomssen Memorial Scholarship was created with memorial contributions by family, friends, classmates, and members of the community after Danie’s sudden passing in February of 2017.

Diane Sigl Schlosser Scholarship

The Diane Sigl Schlosser Scholarship was established in 2017 by her family and friends to honor Diane’s love for teaching and commitment in helping her students discover and pursue their passions.

Dixon Wightman Scholarship

The Dixon Wightman Scholarship was established in 2011 by Steve & Barbara Burian to honor Dixon Wightman a longtime Bismarck Public School (BPS) teacher and Track & Field Coach.

Gloria Sand Scholarship

The Gloria Sand Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila & Earl McClenathan, to honor her memory.

Kenneth Hendrickson Scholarship

Created in 2004 to assist a BHS student who has an interest in the computer field and is a member of the military or whose parents are members of the military. This scholarship is managed by the Bismarck Public Schools Foundation.

Neil Souther Scholarship

Neil Souther taught in Bismarck for over 35 years, and, after retiring from the district, returned to the profession to teach Latin in Mandan for eight years until a replacement teacher could be found. Throughout his career, Neil taught Latin, French and English. He officially retired in 2013.

Paul & Marion Walz Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2008 to assist a BHS student who understands the value of education and has a sincere interest to learn. This scholarship is managed by the Bismarck Public Schools Foundation.

Richard & Ileane Biwer Memorial Scholarship

Established in 2008 to assist a Bismarck Public School graduate to pursue their collegiate goals.

Tayler Fladeland Memorial Scholarship Fund

Established in 2011 by Tayler’s relatives. The purpose of the Fund is to assist students from BHS to continue their post-secondary education. Two $1,000 scholarships will be given each year.

Timothy C Nordquist Memorial Fund

The purpose of this Fund is to allow a Bismarck Public School special education student or teacher to enhance their education through the purchase of a piece of needed equipment, or for transportation costs for educational enrichment, or fees for student summer camp, or opportunities for special education staff development.

Scholarship Application and Selection Process

  • Fill out the application form on our application page.
  • Fall deadline: October 1, 2017. Spring deadline: April 1st, 2018
  • The BPSF program committee reviews application and makes recommendations to the BPSF board of directors for approval.

North Dakota Community Foundation Scholarships

Alton Carl Wolfer Memorial Scholarship

Established in memory of this BHS teacher, this scholarship is awarded annually to a BHS student.

Benjamin Berg Memorial Scholarship

The Benjamin Berg Memorial Scholarship fund was established in 2016 by the parents of Benjamin Berg to honor his memory. Ben attended pre-school at Merry-Go-Round, elementary school at Highland Acres, middle school at Horizon, high school at Century and was attending Bismarck State College at the time of his passing.

Bismarck Schools Scholarship Fund

Established in 1986 by an anonymous donor. Given annually to one student from Bismarck High and one student from Century High School. This scholarship is based on academic achievement and financial need.

Chris Traeholt Scholarship

Created as a memorial for this former Century High School student. Given annually to a CHS student.

Edgar Bollinger Scholarship

Established in memory of this longtime Bismarck State College business instructor. Given annually to a BHS student.

Guy Larson Scholarship

Awarded annually to a graduating senior at BHS who participated in music in high school and plans to pursue a major or minor in music at college.

Harold Kepler Scholarship

Awarded annually to assist a band student from CHS with half of the registration fee to attend the International Music Camp at the ND Peace Gardens.

Jim & Barbara Blaine

Created to assist CHS students whose parents are educators at CHS.

Kathy Eggmann Scholarship

Established in memory of this former Century High School student. Given annually to a CHS student.

Paulie Paul Scholarship

Created in 1996 by Paulie’s family and friends, this scholarship is awarded annually to a CHS student.

Robert C. Peske Scholarship

Awarded annually to a senior member of the BHS stage band.

Tom Sturdevant Scholarship

Created in memory of this former Century High School track and football coach. Given annually to a CHS student.
